Hong Kong International Deaf Film Festival - About us

二零一零年， 香港聾人社群、亞洲民眾戲劇節協會和香港藝術中心，聯同各聾人組織和機構，抱著「擁抱平等多元，支持聾人文化」的決心，摸石過河。在亞洲沒有先例可循之下，開創了亞洲區第一個國際聾人電影節。

我們多年來持續集結世界各地的聾人電影，希望通過以聾人為創作主體、拍攝聾人故事的電影，呈現手語與聾人文化，並肯定聾人是擁有自己語言、文化、歷史、文學和藝術的多元社群，積極取締舊有「殘」或「疾」的醫學框架，不再以「聽障」之名區分為所謂的「病患者」。

It all started in September 2010. Hong Kong Deaf communities, Asian People's Theatre Festival Society and Hong Kong Arts Centre, hand in hand with many Deaf groups and organisations, staged the first ever Hong Kong International Deaf Film Festival in Asia. We started the Festival with the financial support of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council with a strong determination and belief in equal opportunity, embracing diversity and Deaf culture.

Over the years, we have continuously assembled Deaf Films all over the world. We attempt to present sign language and Deaf culture through films that tell stories of the Deaf and created by Deaf people. We take our effort as part of the Disability Justice framework critising the medical model of disability that consider the Deaf as disabled or impaired, and affirm Deaf people as diverse communities with their own language, culture, history, literature and art.
